New Year's is right around the corner. It's an opportunity to start afresh and commit to new resolutions that you may forget about by the second week of January.

For example, you may want to start immersing yourself in philosophy, reading, or signing up for online workshops. You get all too excited, buy a book (say Philosophy for Business Leaders for example), or sign up for a workshop (let's assume it's Navigating Uncertainty), but then life happens.

Uncertainty is an essential part of nature, so how can we navigate it more effectively, if at all? This is what we are going to be exploring in more detail in the upcoming workshop I'm giving in January.

Funny enough, Ray Dalio posted yesterday that great managers are engineers because they treat their organizations like machines. This is in part true. Having an analytic mindset is essential to be able to address problems systematically and efficiently. However, as I responded to him, great managers would not be so great if they treated customers and employees as cogs in a machine. This organic and human dimension won't be accounted for properly through analytic reasoning alone. That's where philosophy comes in.

How can you handle uncertainty & adversity? Deal with difficult colleagues and friends? How can you think about the future and make momentous decisions whose outcomes are uncertain? Are there situations where you're justified to act based on a belief, when no sufficient evidence is available?

In this workshop, we are going to be exploring the above questions in more detail from three different philosophical angles: 1) stoicism (how to manage emotions under uncertainty and adversity), 2) existentialism (how to act in a meaningful way in the face of uncertainty and adversity), 3) faith and belief (when is it justifiable to act based on insufficient evidence.)

The workshop will be highly interactive. Existential crisis may hit, but at least, like Ricky Gervais, by signing up you will make me happy. You may be wondering what the definition of happiness is. We can discuss that then.
